DATAPATH DESIGN  | CASE STUDIES

BriteStream Networks

Situation
As an early-stage player in the security processing market, BriteStream Networks (now part of nCipher Corporation, Ltd) needed to develop disruptive technology. BriteStream's cryptographic accelerator solutions can be utilized to enable the use of SSL with any networked application, eliminating the speed penalty and security risks associated with processing SSL-protected traffic in software.

Solution
Utilizing the datapath design expertise of CellMath Services, BriteStream was able to create a high-performance and area efficient architecture for its datapath section of the UltraLock single chip cryptographic accelerator. Engineers worked closely with the BriteStream developers to craft a customized solution using the CellMath patented silicon math architectures and IP.

Results
BriteStream's UltraLock was the industry's first true in-line SSL solution on a single chip, incorporating full TCP proxy as well as all-inclusive SSL record processing, RSA public key cryptography and bulk encryption capabilities. Its performance specifications include: Up to 10,000 SSL/TLS transactions per second, up to 100,000 simultaneous connections, 2.0 Gbps ARC4 bulk encryption and 1.0 Gbps 3DES bulk encryption.

Client Perspective
"CellMath technology helped us achieve significant innovation that will benefit our customers. Our first product -- UltraLock, the industry's only plug-and-play SSL offload solution -- demonstrates this, and we have a strong roadmap that will keep us in a leadership position."
-- Ed Reynolds, Vice President Marketing, BriteStream Networks

"UltraLock enables us to offer our customers one of the fastest and most secure ranges of SSL acceleration products in the world."
-- Alex van Someren, Chief Executive Officer of nCipher
